Annual
vaccinations
against all common viruses affecting dogs and cats are
offered, including rabies. The cost is $13
for each adult pet – cat or dog. The charge for
puppies and kittens under four months of age is $8,
which covers their necessary “baby shots.”
Adult
dogs receive a “5-way” which vaccinates against parvo,
distemper, hepatitis and two respiratory viruses. Adult cat
vaccinations cover panleukopenia and two respiratory
viruses.
The
SPCA is also offering low-cost de-worming, with a
price range from $5 to $15, depending on the animal’s
size, age, and type of worms involved.
Additionally, blood testing is available for
heartworm infection in dogs and leukemia virus
infection in cats. Fees for these services are $12 for
canine heartworm testing and $14 for feline leukemia
testing.
“We
are offering this low-cost vaccination clinic to help reduce
disease in our community’s animals. All of these diseases
are potentially fatal viral infections. And people should
know that state law requires that dogs and cats be
vaccinated against rabies,” said Melissa Montgomery, SPCA
veterinarian.
“Providing affordable vaccinations will help with overall
health care for pets. We’re promoting disease prevention
and health maintenance as spring approaches and the risk of
contagious infections in animals rises,” Dr. Montgomery
continued. “All unprotected dogs and cats should be
vaccinated soon.”
“Some
of the diseases we vaccinate against are treatable, but
these diseases can have lingering effects, and they are
expensive to treat,” Dr. Montgomery said. “We’re trying to
spare people the heartache and suffering that accompanies
serious illness in their pets.”
