Some of
our furry new arrivals have had little experience with
people or life beyond a chain, a backyard, with nothing to
do and no human company. Others may have lived in a puppy
mill, where the animals are sales income and breeding
property, receiving little human warmth.
Dogs and
cats who spend time with our volunteers learn about trusting
human friends, confidence of mastering manners, and the
rewards of friends forever.
Volunteers
help in many ways. Here are some examples.
-
Grooming and walking dogs
-
Playing games and petting kittys
-
Showing pets at scheduled off-site events such as
parades, festivals, and more
-
Working with pets and meeting people during outings
aboard MAC (mobile adoption center)
-
Providing educational information at booth displays for
community Fairs and other events
-
Helping with fundraising projects
-
Learn
through special workshops/trainings such as emergency
first aid for pets, training techniques, disaster
planning, and more
-
Participating in shelter improvement and cleanup
activity
-
Joining the pet therapy teams visiting residents in area
nursing homes through our PAL – Pets Are Love – program
