Marceline’s Happy Tail

August 9, 2025Nessy (formally Oakley) came to us in April of 2025 a little unsure of the world. Each day, she came out of her shell bit by bit, slowly realizing that maybe the world wasn’t so scary after all. While all of us at Tulsa SPCA love every animal who comes through our doors, some leave an extra-deep imprint on our hearts. Nessy was one of those dogs — the kind you fall for so completely that it’s hard to imagine saying goodbye. In fact, one of our staff members couldn’t picture her going home with anyone else. But as you’ll see, Nessy ended up exactly where she was meant to be. Her adopter shares the beautiful life she’s living now — full of play, cuddles, and all the love in the world.
Hello! I wanted to share how things were going with Oakley in her new home!
Her new name is Nerissa, but we call her Nessy for short (like the Loch Ness monster). She’s an absolute doll. She fits perfectly into my home. It took some time, but her and my other dog Hades are playing every day now. And she’s even starting to learn how to play with toys thanks to him showing her. She snuggles in bed with me, my dog and even the cats. She’s been adopting some of the cats’ mannerisms – like curling into a ball on one specific pillow right by my head in the middle of the night. if she’s not doing that, she’s sprawled out taking up as much room on the bed as she possibly can making sure we know it’s really her bed and not ours.
She hasn’t quite figured out that the cats aren’t trying to play chase with her when they’re running around but I’m sure she’ll get used to it. She otherwise does amazing with them which was honestly my biggest concern with her being an older dog, but it’s not been any issue. She will NEVER let an intruder go unnoticed. She’s taken on the job of lookout and she’s very serious about it. whether it’s just a squirrel running up the tree or the mailman driving by; She makes sure to bark as loud as she can to get our attention and I assume- attempt to scare the fiends away.
I really want to say thanks so much to everyone who helped this girl. Even though I haven’t had her long I already don’t know what I would do without her. She was so skinny and fearful when she arrived and she’s a completely new dog now. Living the life she deserves. She’s getting fancy freeze-dried coated kibble with freeze-dried organ meat pieces & quail eggs. She also wouldn’t let me go the whole day without giving her one of her special treats (like a pig ear, bully stick, or cookie) . Slowly but surely, we are getting her back to the weight she should be.”
